Cornerback Ike Taylor is the Steelers top priority heading into next season but the team will not reach a deal with Taylor before the CBA expires on March.
No “serious” negotiations are expected to take place between now and March 3rd, sources close to Taylor indicate after Omar Khan and agent Joel Segal met yesterday in Indianapolis.
Taylor’s camp was told that he’s a top priority but the team intends to see how the new CBA sets up before getting into serious discussions.
Taylor has a strong interest in returning but he will be 31 next season and this is his last chance to get a final big contract.
If a new CBA is not in place until several months down the road or closer to the season, one scenario out there is impending free agents being forced to return to their 2010 team for one more season. Those players in return would get a percentage bump in pay.
