Veteran winger remains unsigned
Petr Sykora’s camp was highly confident that their client would sign at the beginning of the month but with training camps to open in four weeks, Sykora has yet to receive an offer over $1.8 million per season.
One of the main holdups in Sykora remaining on the free agent market is the fact that he’s a plan B or C for interested teams, not their plan A.
Sykora has been highly involved in talks with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers.
Both teams have an interest in Sykora but the Lightning are believed to be close to finalizing a deal with winger Alex Tanguay.
The Flyers have discussed the parameters of a contract with Sykora’s camp but at the top of their wishlist is Todd Bertuzzi.
Other teams to express mild interest in Sykora have been the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders, Phoenix Coyotes and the New Jersey Devils.
A return to Pittsburgh
is still not going to happen, despite Sykora likely to sign for under $1.5 million per season.
