BENNETT TO GET A LOOK IN CAMP
The Penguins appear tempted to see how Beau Bennett, the organization’s top forward prospect matches up against NHL players in camp as Bennett is expected to be among a small group of players from Wilkes Barre that the team plans to bring to Pittsburgh.
Bennett, Tangradi and Robert Bortuzzo are all healthy scratches today and will be invited to camp. Tangradi and Bortuzzo are expected to be on the opening night roster.
Defenseman Brian Strait is playing today for Wilkes Barre but will be invited to camp.
Bennett has showed great playmaking ability and vision as he’s much farther along in his development than the Penguins expected coming into the season. The Penguins feel he see’s the ice at an elite level and as I’ve wrote in the past, he would be an ideal linemate for Sidney Crosby as he can find players in space.
Bennett goes into camp as a longshot and whether he’s strong enough at this point in his development to play against bigger, stronger players remains to be seen but he’s a true wildcard. It’s a win-win situation for the Penguins to bring him into camp and see how it goes.
