A new rumor is coming out of Phoenix, that the Penguins have inquired about Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanoski. A source out of Phoenix has confirmed this rumor but this is coming from the same source who told me the Penguins were very close to acquiring Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris three weeks ago, so take this rumor with caution until further information is gathered. I have put out a few emails this evening so hopefully i will have some info tomorrow morning but a source close to the Penguins organization told me a few days ago, there have been some rumblings that Ray Shero has been involved in some preliminary trade talks with two Western Conference teams but would not specify who they were. Those talks were believed to be centered around Anaheim inquiring about Eric Christensen but Phoenix and Pittsburgh have been linked more than a couple times this summer so well see where this goes.
The offer according to my source out of Phoenix: Ryan Malone, Brooks Orpik & 3rd round pick for Ed Jovanoski. At this moment, I’m taking this rumor with caution until i talk to some people in Pittsburgh. I can confirm the Coyotes are interested in Ryan Malone as i reported that a few weeks go. As for Jovanoski, I just can’t picture the Penguins acquiring Jovanoski because of his salary. The Penguins may have interest in Jovo but for financial reasons this deal doesn’t make sense. Check back in the morning, i should have some legitmate info regarding the Jovo rumors.
