The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Jay McKee to a one year deal. The two sides are in the process of finalizing a deal and an official announcement will be made on Friday.
McKee informed the Chicago Blackhawks this evening that he will not be signing with them and will join the Stanley Cup Champions.
Despite a higher offer from the Nashville Predators, McKee’s final two teams were the Penguins and the Blackhawks.
Pittsburgh made a great sales pitch to McKee as he became the teams top target after Rob Scuderi signed with the LA Kings on July 2nd.
Pittsburgh halted their pursuit of defenseman Nick Boynton on Tuesday as the team became confident that they would sign McKee.
Boynton agreed to a one year deal worth $1.5 million with the Anaheim Ducks this afternoon.
McKee was bought out by the St. Louis Blues on July 30th. He was due $4 million for the upcoming season and will receive $2.67 million from the Blues this season.
