Scratch Jay McKee off the list of pending UFA defenseman that may return to Pittsburgh before July 1.
According to a league source, McKee has made his intentions known to Penguins management that he will test free agency.
I’m told from those close to McKee that no talks between McKee’s camp and Pens’ GM Ray Shero will happen between now and July 1, confirming that McKee will be a unrestricted free agent.
A source in McKee’s camp tells me that McKee returning to Pittsburgh after July 1 would be subject to who else signs.

McKee is eyeing a top-6 role and there was a belief that the Penguins have an interest in retaining the veteran defenseman.
