PENGUINS MAKE QUALIFYING OFFERS TO RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
The Pittsburgh Penguins officially qualified the following restricted free agents, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has confirmed.
Brandon Sutter – $2.7 million
Nick Spaling – $1.5 million
Simon Despres – $850,500
Philip Samuelsson – $605,000
Jason Megna – $874,125
Brandon Sutter and Nick Spaling will both decline their qualifying offers, a league source confirmed.
Word is Spaling was looking for around $2.5 million per season from the Predators.
Sutter who was qualified at $2.7 million, is open to a short and long-term deal. Talks between associate GM Jason Botterill and Sutter’s agent Craig Oyster will begin on Wednesday. Sutter’s camp believes he is a $4 million a year player.
Sutter is just a year away from unrestricted free agency.
The Penguins currently have $14.6 million in cap space but new deals for Sutter, Spaling, project to take up around $6 million in cap space.
