The Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to terms with 30 year old winger Jason Williams. The deal is a one year, two-way deal worth $600,000 at the NHL level.
Williams, 30, 5-foot-11, 185lbs is a former 20 goal scorer, scoring a career high 21 goals and 58 points for the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-2006.
Williams though hasn’t been very effective in his last two seasons, dealing with a bad broken leg in 2010, but is an intriguing player going into camp due to his versatility to play center and wing and ability on the power play.
Williams had 2 goals and 3 assists in 27 games with the Dallas Stars last season, signing with the Stars in February.
In 2009-2010, Williams appeared in 44 games with the Detroit Red Wings, collecting 6 goals and 15 points.
Williams isn’t that far removed from a 19 goal – 47 point season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Atlanta Thrashers in 2008-2009.
Williams was a member of the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup winning team in 2001-2002.
He’s destined for Wilkes Barre but a solid depth signing.
