AGENT LISTENING TO OFFERS for DOAN
Shane Doan’s agent Terry Bross of Lagardere Unlimited has begun listening to offers for his client in the past 24 hours.
“We are taking offers, ” Bross told Inside Pittsburgh Sports.com on Wednesday evening.
Bross confirms,
that he has “remained in contact with Pittsburgh throughout the week” and the team has begun making their pitch. The Penguins are believed to have made a formal multi-year offer today to Doan but Bross would neither confirm nor deny when asked, due to the respect of the process. Doan, NHL sources say, is seeking at least a three to four year deal.
Bross though did deny reports that Doan is waiting to make a decision until after July 16 which is the next key meeting for Phoenix/Glendale. He said the July 16th meeting has no impact on Doan’s decision moving forward.
There is some chatter today around the league that Doan is leaning towards possibly leaving Phoenix.
The Penguins are showing strong interest in Doan and to this point, Pittsburgh is believed to be on Doan’s shortlist of teams he is interested in playing for. That list aside from Phoenix is also believed to include the Red Wings, Kings, Canucks, and possibly the New York Rangers, NHL sources say.
Indications on Tuesday was that the Penguins brass expected to learn by Thursday or Friday of whether they’re truly a team Doan is serious about as his agent seems to be indicating to them. Bross expects to touch base with Doan on Thursday and Doan’s shortlist of teams could become even smaller from the four to five teams they’re currently considering after more than 15 teams expressed preliminary interest since July 1.
The Penguins feel Doan can provide the type of on-ice and off ice production that Billy Guerin provided for them during their 2009 Stanley Cup run.
Guerin said today that Doan makes any team a better team.
“Any team with Shane Doan on it is a better team. The guys a proven leader, he’s a warrior, ” Guerin said today of Doan.
