Grossman makes history
The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, swept the Charlotte Stone Crabs Thursday, 3-1, behind an historic performance from rightfielder Robbie Grossman.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Grossman took full count walk from Charlotte pitcher Michael Jarman, his 100th walk of the year. Grossman becomes the first minor league player to score 100 runs and walk 100 times in a season since 2004, when Nick Swisher did it for the Triple-A Sacramento Rivercats. He is the first player in the Florida State League to walk 100 times since 1998.
Grossman also belted his 11th home run of the season in the victory. Grossman is batting .292 on the season with 11 home runs – 52 RBI’s, 111 runs scored and 100 walks.
