Pittsburgh Pirates
0 CommentsPirates working on finalizing deal that will send Joel Hanrahan to Red Sox

Joel Hanrahan’s tenure as a Pittsburgh Pirate is coming to an end. After failed trade talks with the Detroit Tigers last week and now failed talks with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Pirates have focused their attention on finalizing a deal with the Boston Red Sox that is expected to have “multiple” players coming the Pirates way.
However, defensive minded shortstop Jose Iglesias who has been linked to the Pirates, is not expected to be a part of the deal, per Jon Heyman of CBSSports. One Pirates source says the frame work is in place and the two sides are on track to reaching a tentative agreement as early as this weekend but names from both sides are still being discussed. Indications are Pittsburgh will receive at least three players. Red Sox LHP Franklin Morales and OF Jerry Sands are among the names being rumored in trade talks. The Pirates would have loved to trade for SS Deven Marrero in a deal for Hanrahan but Marrero can’t be moved yet being a 2012 draft pick. The Pirates considered Marrero with the No. 8 overall selection in the 2012 draft. That rule needs to change.
Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston first reported that a deal was close.
