Philip Tomasino in a second line role played 18:05 in his Penguins debut vs the Vancouver Canucks, including 14:56 at even strength, 2nd most among Penguins. Tomasino was pointless with 1 SOG and minus-1 rating. There were some glimpses of Tomasino’s puck skills when the puck is on his stick but even just one game in you can see the all-around game needs a lot of work. The Penguins second line was bleeding shot attempts all night. Tomasino posted a 17 CF% @ 5 vs 5, on the ice for just 4 shot attempts and 19 against. With Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino on the ice together for a team high 12:21 together, the line was on the ice for just 2 shots on goal, the worst mark among the Penguins four lines.
