Red Sox nation has invaded Pittsburgh as the Pirates host the Boston Red Sox in a three game set, starting tonight at PNC Park.
Tonight will be the first meeting between the two teams in Pittsburgh since 2003.
The Red Sox who are 14-4 in their last 18 games, will send John Lester (9-3, 3.70 ERA) to the mound.
Paul Maholm (3-8, 3.29 ERA) takes the mound for the Priates.
Adrian Gonzalez has been hot at the plate and he’s hitting .452 with 23 RBIs during the Red Sox 14-4 run.
The Pirates are 4-5 this season in Interleague play. Last year they were 2-13.
Some developments for the Pirates going into tonight’s game is that infielder Chase d’Arnaud will start at third base and bat second. He gets to see his first MLB against an intimidating team.
Matt Diaz who is hitting .306 in the month of June will bat 5th.
