The Pittsburgh Penguins open training camp in two days and excitement is building in the Penguins organization of the team having a Sidney Crosby Extension ‘announcement’ to make this week. Crosby just prior to the weekend informed his representation led by [hide] Pat Brisson and Jim Nice to push forward on an extension, team sources confirm. Crosby has been torn for months on how long to extend and the Penguins organization was initially caught off guard when sometime in June; Crosby’s reps informed the Penguins he wanted to take some time before signing. Much of the leg work has been done on various scenarios. Parameters/Framework of a one, three and a five-year contract extension were conceptually discussed over the summer, though, the five-year extension was something new brought to the table by the Penguins organization at some point in late August. Pittsburgh in the spring has gone from being highly optimistic of getting a three-year agreement, to now being thrilled if they receive anything longer than a one-year extension. While indications are as of a Saturday the ‘term of the deal remained a revolving door, there were certainly rumblings over the weekend that parameters of a two-year extension have now been put in play and some have regarded that number as a sweet spot for both sides.
