Steelers special teams coach Danny Smith, previously with the Washington Redskins, has been pushing hard to bring Redskins special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander to Pittsburgh.
The 29 year old linebacker had 47 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season for the Redskins. Alexander who can play OLB and MLB, would provide depth for the Steelers at the linebacker position, but would be an excellent addition on special teams. Alexander is regarded as one of the best special teams players in the NFL and was named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster as a designated special teams player in 2012.
The Steelers toughest competition for Alexander is out West as the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco have emerged as the other two finalists for Alexander.
Alexander made $650,000 in 2012.
