Steelers Post-Game
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin talks getting out-played in all three phases, Larry Foote getting playing time over James Farrior, injury update on James Harrison and whether the Steelers defense looks slow
Tomlin Opening Statement:
“We got handled in all three phases today. We accept responsibility for plays we made and didn’t make. We compliment them at the same time for the way they performed. Obviously,
we have a lot of work to do. We didn’t stop those guys enough, we didn’t turn around enough ball carriers, we didn’t get off {field} enough on third down. We didn’t create turnovers and offensively we never found rhythm. When that happens versus against a good team, we’re going to get beat like we didn’t today. We don’t like it but we accept it. We’ll respond accordingly.”
Harrison Update
Tomlin said James Harrison has been diagnosed with a knee contusion. Tomlin said it doesn’t appear serious at this point. He will be further evaluated.
Commitment to Larry Foote
Larry Foote saw action at middle linebacker and struggled at times, tackling high and making some blown tackles. Tomlin said that the team had decided to make a commitment to Foote prior to the game and that he would get some playing time over Farrior.
“We had made a commitment to play Larry Foote, ” Tomlin said. Larry has had a good preseason. We respect both men, we know both men are capable of standing in front of our defense and making calls. We like the play of both men. We made a commitment early on that both men were going to play and we stuck to it.”
Defense looking old
The Steelers defense as a whole looked gassed for much of the afternoon and a step slow. Tomlin isn’t ready to make any judgements.
“We just didn’t make enough plays, ” Tomlin said. “Not ready to judge it from a speed standpoint”
