A move that has been expected since the season ended in February, the Pittsburgh Steelers will cut ties with linebacker Larry Foote within the next week.
Profootballtalk first reported this afternoon of the Steelers intentions to release Foote, citing a league source.
Foote who has fell behind 2007 first round pick Lawrence Timmons on the depth chart, was due a salary of $2,885,000 in 2009.
The Steelers were shopping Foote prior to the draft and the move will create cap space for the Steelers.
Foote did not attend the Steelers OTA workouts last week but his agent did confirm that Foote would show up to mini-camp.
The release will not happen until next week because

the Steelers are believed to still be engaged with a few teams in trade talks. A deal is unlikely to be reached but two NFC teams have expressed an interest. Steelers will try to get something for Foote.
