The Pittsburgh Steelers this morning officially signed RB Chad Spann to their active roster. To make room for Spann, the team placed rookie LB Chris Carter, the team’s 5th round pick on IR. The 5-foot-8, 200-pound Spann was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2011, and signed by the Tampa Bay Buccanneers on October 17, 2011, before recently being signed to the Steelers practice squad. He played college football at Northern Illinois University and as a senior in 2010, Spann rushed for 1,388 yards and led the nation with 22 touchdowns. In his college career, Spann rushed for 2,916 yards and 48 touchdowns. He was the 2010 MAC Offensive Player of the Year. As things stand right now, Spann will be the Steelers No. 3 running back in Sunday’s game behind Isaac Redman and John Clay. The team does not expect Mewelde Moore to play. |
