8:00 p.m: The Pirates and Red Sox have resumed talks about a deal that could send outfielder Willy Mo Pena to Pittsburgh. Talks between the Red Sox and White sox appear to be dead in a deal that would have sent Pena to Chicago for Jermaine Dye. There is still a possibility more talks could be on the horizon between the White Sox and Red Sox.
The Detroit Tigers have also inquired about Jack Wilson. They are interested in Wilson backing up Carlos Guillen. Despite some interest from the Tigers and Blue Jays, sources have told me the Pirates will most likely will wait until the off-season to trade Wilson.
7:03 p.m: Mixed signals on Jack Wilson. A source has told me the Jays and Pirates have resumed talks but i have been told from a source out of Toronto that the Blue Jays are not interested in acquiring Wilson until the offseason. “The deal i reported last week (Jack Wilson for prospect Ryan Patterson) remains a possibility but the only way Wilson is traded at the deadline is if the Pirates absorb a good chunk of Wilsons’ salary.
Talks appear to be dead in a deal that would have sent Jason Bay to the New York Mets for Outfielder Lastings Miledge and prospect Jon Niese. more on this later. The Mets are saying they are committed to Moises Alou but sources are confirming there looking to make a splash to counter the Braves. They have also had talks with the White Sox about Jermaine Dye.
The Red Sox have expressed an interest in reliever Damaso Marte but are currently battling the Yankees and Mets for Texas Rangers reliever Eric Gagne. According to Jayson Stark The Yankees and Mets have the edge because they are two of 12 teams to which Gagne can’t block a trade, and the Red Sox don’t have that luxury.
The Braves and Mariners are the front runners to land Royals closer Octavio Dotel. The Mariners are also making a strong push for Devil Rays reliever Al Reyes. If the Mets miss out on Gagne, they may be interested in Marte i have been told. The Phillies have also inquired about Marte.
According to Buster Olney, Jermaine Dye to Boston is dead. The Red Sox made a aggressive offer but the White Sox are not interested in outfielder Willy Mo Pena.
Reports are circulating the New York Mets are on the verge of trading for Twins 2nd baseman Luis Castillo.
Troy Glaus could be the next big name to be traded.

Just a hunch but i don’t expect the Pirates to make anymoves until tommorow……
