Talks with Tigers hit a stalemate: According to sources, Jack Wilson is not any closer to being a Detroit Tiger than he was last week. Sources in Detroit still think he will be a Detroit Tiger before Aug 31st but according to some people close to the Pirates organization, David Littlefield believes the Pirates can get the best value for Wilson in the off-season. I still say it’s 60/40, Wilson will be traded.

Pirates to pursue Wily Mo Pena?: With the signing of outfielder Bobby Kielty, Wily Mo Pena’s days as a member of the Red Sox could be numbered, according to a report in the Providence Journal. Pena is hitting .218 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 147 at-bats for Boston this season. The Pirates showed an interest in acquiring Pena from the Red Sox before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline. Pena has cleared waivers and according to my sources, Littlefield has had talks with the Red Sox since the trade deadline but it remains to be seen whether the Pirates will trade for Pena, whose value is very low.

Eric Byrnes 3 years – 30 million: The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed outfielder Eric Byrnes to a 3 yr – 30 million extension. This will put to rest the rumors we seem to hear every off-season how David Littlefield is interested in acquiring Brynes.
