All off-season we heard the Steelers preference was always to bring back Justin Fields and or Russell Wilson. Even after Fields quickly signed with the New York Jets in Free Agency and the Aaron Rodgers noise started to leak, the media continued to spin things that Fields was the priority over Rodgers or anybody else.
Facts are that’s a pretty big stretch.
Three-to-four weeks prior to Free Agency, Tomlin became enamored with the Aaron Rodgers possibility and as free agency got closer Tomlin became highly confident one way or another, he was going to land the four-time MVP. Essentially Pittsburgh was never resigning Fields to starter level money, and the agent knew it. Tomlin became so sold on Rodgers that Pittsburgh was prepared to put a sizeable two year offer on the table to Rodgers on the day of free agency before Rodgers quickly pushed back on listening to offers.

Fields struggled in camp through the air and the biggest threat from Fields on Sunday is certainly going to be his legs.
