Among the growing storylines for the Penguins entering camp next week is the logjam at forward:
Pittsburgh has to this point failed to move some vets out for young players. No team stepped up to meet the steep asking prices on the likes of Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell combined with pushback from from power brokers in the organization on moving either. However, in a perfect world Pittsburgh hoped by this point to have been able to move on from some depth players to clear spots.
Barring injuries or a surprise trade of Rust or Rakell; Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, Anthony Mantha (If Cleared), Tommy Novak, and Justin Brazeau are the seven locks in the lineup.
From there things could go a number of ways:
Veterans on 1-way contracts: Kevin Hayes (12-team No Trade List), Noel Acciari (8-team No Trade List), Blake Lizotte, Danton Heinen, Connor Dewar, Philip Tomasino.
