Connor Dewar a stalwart on Pittsburgh’s 4th line this past season, has inked a two year, $4.5 million contract with the Penguins. The deal carries a $2.25 Million cap hit, matching Blake Lizotte’s cap hit on his extension signed a few months ago. [hide] The Penguins also announced the resigning of defenseman Ilya Solovyov to a one year, $850K contract. Dewar, 26, is the newsworthy signing of the two after recording career highs across the board in goals (14), assists (16), points (30) and plus/minus (+16). Dewar’s career year included a plus-16 to lead all Penguins forwards and ranked third overall on the team. Dewar also added two goals in six playoff games. With the signing of Dewar, Pittsburgh is keeping two-thirds of their 4th line together. Noel Acciari also a focal point of the unit, is a free agent July 1 and has a strong interest in resigning as Pittsburgh debates his status internally. Acciari has support from the coaching staff to resign but age and a numbers game is a major factor on a decision as the likes of an Avery Hayes would be a prime candidate to take on a full-time role on the 4th line next season.
