Boston College defenseman Philip Samuelsson (6-2, 202), the Penguins 2nd round pick from 2009, is leaving school to turn pro.
Samuelsson has signed a 3 year entry level contract, according to the Penguins.
When drafted, few would have thought Samuelsson would be leaving school after two years but his development has accelerated and been rapid at BC.

Samuelsson according to scouts was BC’s most complete defenseman this past season. He doesn’t play a physical/nasty type of game like his father but developed into an excellent two-way defenseman at BC.
Samuelsson collected 16 points and a +17 rating in 39 games during his sophomore campaign.
He was a +32 during his two seasons at BC.
Samuelsson is regarded as one of Pittsburgh’s top-3 defensemen in their system, joining the likes of top prospect Simon Despres and Robert Bortuzzo.
