Doan to visit Flyers this weekend
(Updated: 9:50 p.m.)
As winger Shane Doan continues to wait for the Phoenix Coyotes, he is beginning to look more aggressively at other options, meeting with the New York Rangers brass today in New York and Doan plans to visit at least a few more teams in the next couple days and into next week.
One of those teams will be the Pittsburgh Penguins, in addition to the Philadelphia Flyers who will be Doan’s next visit, an NHL source confirmed.

The Rangers have long been regarded as one of the few teams in the Eastern Conference that Doan has been serious about and he has ties to the Rangers coaching staff, which is a draw for him along with the Rangers emerging as a Cup contender last season. A downfall though for the Rangers could be talk of Doan believed to be lukewarm of living in Manhattan as his wife and kids will be going wherever he signs.
Doan seeking a three to four year deal, currently has offers on the table from Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, San Jose, Detroit, New York and Buffalo.
The Penguins who have expressed strong interest, have been in the process of setting up a face to face meeting with Doan as Doan’s agent Terry Bross and GM Ray Shero are currently working to arrange a visit for next week, sources confirmed.
Doan is expected to visit the Philadelphia Flyers this weekend, which will be the second official visit he will take after Friday’s visit with the Rangers. The Flyers at this point don’t have an official offer on the table and would be unlikely to afford both Shea Weber and Doan if the Predators don’t match Weber’s offer sheet. However, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is excellent at getting under the cap and has a number of tradeable assets so I wouldn’t rule anything out with him.
Meanwhile, Doan wanting to meet with Pittsburgh is a clear sign that Pittsburgh is indeed on Doan’s small short-list of teams he is considering.
