Just got confirmation from a league source that the Steelers have released running back Frank Summers.
Summers has been released to the practice squad but according to a source close to Summers “several teams have already shown significant interest, ” the source said.
Time will tell if Summers gets picked up but his agent Craig Schaeffer has received plenty of early calls.
Summers surprisingly lost his spot to rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer whose late push secured a roster spot for the rookie.
The Steelers have informed running backs Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Isaac Redman and Dwyer that they have made the team.
Meanwhile, a source close to Summers who spoke on the condition of anonymity blamed Bruce Arians on the second year pro being released.
“He {Frank Summers} will land on his feet, ” source said. “But truly this wasn’t his fault.”

“It’s your Arians dislike of a fullback, ” the source added.
