Andrew McCutchen (.323 – 12 HR – 51 RBI) the reigning NL MVP, just missed hitting for the cycle, was a home run short, in Friday’s 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. McCutchen went 4 for 5 and has been on an absolute tear since June, hitting .363 with 8 home runs, 28 RBI, and 23-extra base hits in his last 30 games.
As we near the All-Star break and as long as the Pirates stay in playoff contention, McCutchen is putting himself in very strong position for a serious run at a second straight MVP award.
