As expected Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik was named to the USA Olympic Mens’ hockey team this afternoon.
Orpik will join former teammate Ryan Malone on the team
Former Penguins defensemen Ryan Whitney and Rob Scuderi were not named to the team. Whitney was in serious contention for the final defenseman spot, while Scuderi was a major longshot.
Penguins forward Bill Guerin was also not named to the team which was expected. The 39 year old forward got a look from Team USA officials but was not believed to be under any kind of serious consideration of making the team.
Most of the talk of Guerin being in the mix for Team USA was only coming from Pittsburgh.
