Despite not putting up the offensive numbers that some would like, the Ducks organization believes they received the best player out of the Ryan Whitney/ Chris Kunitz trade.
I recently spoke to

Dan Wood of the Orange County Register who has covered the Ducks since 2001. Dan tells me the Ducks organization is quite happy with the addition of Whitney and many in the organization believe they received the best player in the trade.
Whitney who only has 4 assists in 10 games, statisically hasn’t had the offensive impact that Chris Kunitz has had for the Penguins but Whitney has been “a great addition as far as improving the transition game and getting the puck up to forwards.” Adding a puck moving defenseman was a primary need for the Ducks
In the long run the Ducks believe Whitney will be considerably more valuable for the Ducks than Kunitz would have been. Whitney is more what the Ducks need and the Penguins can make the same argument for Kunitz that he is more of what the Penguins need.
