Egor Chinakhov’s breakout season with the Pittsburgh Penguins saw him net a 3 year, $18.75 million contract with the Penguins on Saturday. The Penguins also agreed to a one year, $2.8 million contract with goaltending Arturs Silovs who go into next season looking to hold off top prospect Sergei Murashov. While the team publicly continues to say Joel Blomqvist will be allotted an opportunity to win an NHL spot, everyone knows where the goaltending situation is headed. For Chinakhov the deal takes him into free agency at age 28. It’s a straight $6.25 million a year base salary for all three seasons, while Chinakhov lands a 10-team No Trade List in Year 3 of the deal. The pending RFA was a smooth negotiation throughout, though, the changing NHL landscape saw the deal come in a little higher than Pittsburgh’s initial internal projections.
