Jeanmar Gomez (2-0, 2.38 ERA) threw 5 shutout innings, leading the Pittsburgh (18-14) to a 4-1 win over the Seattle Mariners (15-19) on Tuesday night. Gomez starting for James McDonald who was placed on DL, allowed 2 hits, and struck out 5 in the win. “A guy comes in here at 4 o’clock and you tell him he’s going to start, to get that effort we were real happy,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Gomez getting notice just prior to game time that he was starting.
