After much fretting in the organization that Evgeni Malkin would need major surgery this summer, a final determination has been made that Malkin will avoid elbow surgery.

The team announced this morning Malkin will not miss any time for the upcoming season.

The Malkin situation now gives the Penguins clarity heading into the draft and free agency.

If Matt Cullen retires, the Penguins are comfortable going in-house with Oskar Sundqvist sliding in as the 4th line center. Surgery for Malkin would have had the Penguins considering outside options.
