The Pittsburgh Pirates won a wild one, 9-8 Wednesday night over the Baltimore Orioles but all of the buzz afterwards was on starter Wandy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez failed to get out of the second inning allowing 7 hits and 6 runs in 1.2 innings pitched. In 26.2 innings pitched this season, Rodriguez has allowed 37 hits, 25 runs (20 ER) and 10 home runs.
Much of this season Rodriguez has looked like he’s out there throwing batting practice. Are the Pirates ready to eat the $5.4 million he is owed and just cut ties?
“I’m not going to go there,” Manager Clint Hurdle said Wednesday night of whether Rodriguez will pitch again for the Pirates. “I’m little worn out right now. We’ll go talk about things.”
If the Pirates aren’t ready to move on from the 35 year old, many expect him to land back on the DL.
