On the heels of clinching a second straight playoff berth, the Pirates are built to sustain success, and a key for sustaining that success at least for the next season or two will be resigning Russell Martin.
Over the past couple months, Huntington has constantly tried to lower expectations, but the adrenaline must have been running high today as Huntington declared on 937 The Fan the Pirates will “stretch” and go “way beyond” what people think they should to resign Martin.

Some talk out of the organization is the Pirates are prepared to make a significant three year offer in the $40-$42 million range but what about four years? — That’s something Martin is strongly believed to covet

“We’re going to do everything in our power {to resign Russell},” Huntington said. “We’re going to go way beyond, where some people think we should go.”
