The Rangers took over the game at the mid-point of the second period, with three goals in the period, including two goals 18 seconds apart.Leading 3-1 after forty minutes, Chris Kreider scored 39 seconds into the third to give the Rangers a commanding 4-1 lead.

Phil Kessel scored two power play goals for Pittsburgh in the loss. Jeff Zatkoff made 24 saves on 28 shots.
