Phillies 6 – Pirates 2

Gerrit Cole allowed five runs in two innings in the Pirates (69-73) 6-2 loss to the Phillies (64-80) on Monday night.

Making his first start since coming off the disabled list, Cole threw just 29 of his 55 pitches for strikes. Two of Cole’s three strikeouts came against Ryan Howard who’s hitting under .200.

Cole walked four and allowed four hits.

“I know he’s not pleased with the result, and with the preparation he put into tonight, it’s understandable,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Cole’s performance.

Cole threw 29 of his 55 pitches for strikes — and two of his Ks were against Ryan Howard.
