Patriots 27 – Steelers 24

Steelers – Patriots delivered an instant classic in the waning minutes and a similar result, a Patriots win over the Steelers.

After a Dion Lewis 8 yard touchdown run and Rob Gronkowski 2-point conversion put the Patriots ahead 27-24 with 52 seconds left, Pittsburgh stormed down the field as Juju Smith-Schuster took a short pass 69 yards to set the Steelers up 1st and 10 at the Patriots 10 yard line with 34 seconds remaining……

As Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski looked to have broken the Steelers’ hearts again, it was the Steelers within seconds of who appeared to have done the same to the Patriots.

Roethlisberger connected with Jesse James for a 10 yard touchdown pass as the Steelers went up three pending extra point, but the call was reversed and ruled incomplete.

Disaster for the Steelers happened next as after a 7 yard reception to Darrius Heyward-Bey, Roethlisberger ran up to the line, faked a spike and threw a slant pass in the middle of the field to Eli Rogers that was deflected and picked off.

Game Over – Patriots 27-24 over the Steelers —

As much as the Steelers played with the Patriots and were in control of the game for much of the 4th quarter, misery continues for the Steelers against the Patriots.

A lot of second guessing will be going on for the Steelers conservative game plan in the 4th quarter and how the Steelers had no answer for Rob Gronkowski on the Patriots 5 play, 77 yard scoring drive (1:10) to go ahead 27-24 where Gronkowski shredded the Steelers secondary for 3 catches, 69 yards and converting a critical 2-point conversion.

Pittsburgh showed they can not only play with the Patriots but they are the more talented team.

What today didn’t show is whether they’d have any chance in New England. History shows that is just another animal for the Steelers.

What we know is Pittsburgh has to have home-field, even more so if Antonio Brown is done for the season as having home-field would also likely avoid seeing Jacksonville for the divisional round.

Unfortunately, the Patriots now control their own destiny where they finish the season at home vs Buffalo and New York Jets.
