Penguins 5 – Sabres 4

Top Performers
Conor Sheary – 3 Assists
Jake Guentzel – 1 Goal, 2 Assists
Sidney Crosby – 1 Goal, 1 Assist

Minus Matt Murray, the Pittsburgh Penguins dressed pretty much their entire opening night lineup in a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night.

The big guns and the Penguins’ special teams units all produced in the win.

Jake Guentzel put together a 3 point night with a goal, 2 assists, giving him nine preseason points. Sidney Crosby added a goal and assist, while linemate Conor Sheary had 3 assists.

Pittsburgh went 2 of 3 on the power play with power play markers from Justin Schultz and Evgeni Malkin.

Phil Kessel notched his first goal of the preseason at 6:21 of the third period off a nice play from Evgeni Malkin in the neutral zone as Kessel created enough separation for a one-on-one opportunity inside the circles with Chad Johnson and blistered the shot by him.

Backup netminder Antti Niemi made 38 saves on 42 shots. The Penguins were outshot 42-27.
