The Pirates strategy of going under slot with the No. 1 overall pick, saw them have a great day on paper in Day 2 of the draft. Pittsburgh’s first four picks of the draft in Day 2 has seen the organization earn high marks from every corner. Among the four, Pittsburgh Selected High Schoolers LHP Anthony Solomento, OF Lonnie White Jr, a Penn State football recruit, RHP/SS Bubba Chandlier, a Clemson football recruit, and RHP Owen Kellington. Solomento, White Jr and Chandlier had first round grades from Baseball America.

“The first four players we took today out of the high school group, those are guys that we had targeted that we really liked,” said GM Ben Cherington. “Really excited to get all of them and we had them all rated pretty highly on our board.”

Pittsburgh expects to sign all four.
