Braves 8 – Pirates 4

The Pittsburgh Pirates (53-52) built a 4-0 lead in the first inning vs the lowly Braves (38-69) and were shutout the rest of the way in an 8-4 loss to Atlanta.

The Braves in scoring 8 unanswered runs in the victory, chipped away at the Pirates lead with Jeff Locke (8-7, 5.63 ERA) on the mound by tagging Locke for 9 hits and 5 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Locke exited the game in the fifth with the Pirates trailing 5-4 and the Braves would tack on two more runs in the sixth off Juan Nicasio and added another in the seventh.

The Pirates were out-hit 15-4 in the loss and managed just one hit after the first inning.
