Jamie Dixon is off to TCU.
Dixon and Pitt officials both came to an agreement over the weekend that things have reached the point where it was time to move on.
Dixon with knowledge that TCU was targeting him as their next head coach, officially received permission Saturday to pursue the opportunity and Pitt made it clear to Dixon and his representatives that they would not stand in the way.

Simply Dusty!
This websites content is starting to reflect menstrual cycles. get 4 days of articles then it stops for a month.
I hope this article stays up until Simply Dustin gets back from Easter vacation so he can explain to me why Dixon was granted permission to talk to TCU even though he adamantly told me that paid coaches who are under contract do not need the schools permission to speak to another school.
Maybe Simply Dustin is paid to work on this site Yoda? Coincidence Dustin gone the site stopped AhHAHA!
You can’t even laugh in the right language.
Because most coaches are not complete dirt bags and handle this type of situation with class. Your statement was, they are not allowed to talk to other schools about a job while under contract with a school, and that is not true. Todd Graham proves it that Pitt never gave him permission and in fact DENIED him, but he worked out a deal with ASU, then resigned from Pitt and then ASU paid his buyout. Linking the article with AD Peterson quoted for your enjoyment.

“He told me he and his family were discussing all day an opportunity at Arizona State, where they had reached out to him for a head coaching job,” Pederson said.
Pederson said he was “at a loss at why into a year, we would be talking about another job.”
Graham asked for permission to talk to Arizona State University, but Pederson denied the permission.
“Less than a year in, I think we are well within our bounds to deny somebody permission,” Pederson said.
Now back to my vacation ty.

So was Dixon leaving Pitt a mutual parting between the two sides? So D you have no other article about potential new coaches?
Only a moron follows Pitt basketball. What’s next tracking the Pirates inevitable letdown.
I can understand why you would be more interesting in CCAC athletics, but that doesnt mean you have to knock Pitt.
interested*. Whats up with the edit button?
There’s no goalie. He doesn’t understand basketball.
Islam is a religion of peace!
It’s crazy how much better the conversation is without that tool posting every five minutes. Every article should be a Pitt headline.
There’s three tools.
2009 was Pitt’s peak. Not saying they won’t get back but they’re kidding themselves if they think they can be a consistent top program at this point.
why couldn’t they be a consistent top program? they are in arguably the best conference and have great facilities. college sports is all about having the right coach. if they get the right guy (not saying it is easy by any means) that can recruit and maximize talent, I don’t see why they couldn’t be a consistent program.
Where they’re going to struggle is not having a local recruiting base that just feeds them awesome athletes. I’m not saying they can’t be that consistent program, but without that local recruiting base, it makes it that much harder.
That is big, too
agree with you both. just saw the instant buzz that they offered the job to s miller…
If they get Miller, absolutely huge. I thought that was the pie in the sky choice.
Huge if they get him. A good coach is the first step towards being a top program
that hope didn’t take long to crash and burn
i was skeptical because it came from “Richie” Walsh – when i saw an update come across my phone from Dejan, i assumed he vetted it himself. He’s a hack too, i guess.
If I’m not mistaken Duke has 1 player from the state of NC on their roster, I think Kentucky has 3 kids from Kentucky and Kansas has 3-4 from Kansas, by no means am I saying that Pitt is anywhere near the level of those schools, I was just pointing out that powerhouse schools usually aren’t built from local talent, they’re built by being able to attract top talent from around the country. Local recruiting won’t have a significant effect on Pitt if they’Re able to recruit the top talent nationally, if Duke had to rely on local recruiting they… Read more »
This is a total chicken or egg thing. Duke can recruit the country because they’re Duke. They didn’t become Duke because they’ve always been able to do that.
The right coach could change that, but they aren’t a ‘name’ program that can attract gobs of one-and-dones right not.
I think they didn’t get many one and dones because of Dixon. he stressed team defense, which is not what a one and done type player wants. if they bring in an uptempo (high octane?) coach that wants to run, well that could change things. not saying it will happen, just saying it could. and that I hope it does.
That’s a good point. He seemed resistant to that change
Wait what??? Why did he receive permission to talk to TCU when I was told yesterday he didn’t need permission?
I think perhaps it’s a courtesy thing Jay. In the pros if you aren’t granted permission then you aren’t able to coach elsewhere. In college you can clearly still coach regardless. Looks like I was wrong but I do believe there are certainly different playing field in coach movement between college and the pros. Based on what I’m reading today it appears I was wrong. Todd Graham may have just been the exception. http://www.denverpost.com/ci_19559447
What do you guys think the chances are that these bombs that went off in Brussels are the doings of a certain “religion” that we’re not supposed to talk about?
Probably Jehovah’s Witnesses or perhaps Reform Jews.
I was thinking fight club. the first rule is we are not supposed to talk about it.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The guy had a great run with the univ and sometimes change is a good thing for both parties.
Agree. He’s not a bad coach, but I just don’t think he’s right for the program. I think he will definitely help a school like TCU though.
Correct. I just hope he has success there and didn’t pick the wrong place assuming he’s had choices the past few years. Good guy just got stale here and needed a change. Very tough place there to coach
I wonder if Yoda will blame the firing on Fleury.
Yoda is upset about the firing because the Pitt basketball is the reason he is the way he is.
I’m okay with it. Clearly stuck in a rut here and the recruiting and ACC adjustments haven’t been made. Wouldn’t have minded if he stayed but a fresh start could be good for both. Or bad…
Yeah – I was as frustrated with Jamie as the next guy, but have to admit, following the Wanny fiasco, I’m a little gun shy on having to go through this. Hoping with Pederson not in the mix that they can get this one right. Fingers crossed, anyway.
Yep. I have much more confidence in the new people in charge. If he was still here I’d never want Jamie to leave. But heard an analyst say they’ll go all in to win. May not mean anything but Steve could be back so I’ll give it a shot. Especially since the AD is a basketball guy
You have an early “hopeful?” Preference if you could have your choice, within reason?
Agree with all of this. Tough to see Jamie go after some good times the past 13 years but believe Gallagher and Barnes are going to make a great hire. Early hopes in order are: Sean Miller, Archie Miller, Chris Mack, Kevin Keats.
I honestly don’t. Sean Miller comes to mind but he’s never gotten over the hump like Jamie and I’m not sure if he’s within reason. Have to make a call. And then his little brother. Other than that I’m not sure. Seems like it’d be a smaller school that I don’t know much on. Barnes said he wants a guy who will recruit like crazy though. That’d be an improvement already
Well, they better bring in somebody that can produce and coach this and future teams to the tournament
Novel idea
This is the type of top notch analysis ive come to expect on here
stagnant is a good way to describe pitt hoops. just don’t haywood the hire.
Completely different administration. Theyre more likely to Narduzzi the hire.
