Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage has been working on fixing Ernesto Frieri’s mechanics, notably Frieri’s release point, but there’s no signs of fixing Frieri quickly.
The Pirates suffered a second straight walk-off loss Tuesday night when Cardinals rookie Kolten Wong hit a walkoff homer off Frieri to deliver the 5-4 win. With a full count Wong had been sitting on a fastball and made Frieri pay who said afterwards he didn’t want to walk Wong and put a runner on base.
“”I give him credit,” Frieri said. “That was a really good at-bat. I didn’t want to walk him, I don’t want to put the winning run on base.”
With the loss the Pirates (47-43) have dropped to fourth place in the NL Central.
