• After striking out 9 and walking none in his previous start vs the Phillies on Monday, Jeff Locke’s troubles to throw strikes popped back up Saturday night in the Pirates 6-4 loss to the Cubs. Locke allowed six hits and three runs in 5⅓ innings. Locke walked 3 but threw just 62 of 106 pitches for strikes. The Cubs scored three runs in the third inning which Locke called the difference in the game. “I just didn’t make pitches when I needed to in the third inning,” Locke said. “It was the difference in the game because we came back and scored late.”
