Cornerback Keenan Lewis has signed a five year deal with the New Orleans Saints, the team announced team. “We are excited to be able to add a player of Keenan’s ability to our defense,” Saints GM Mickey Loomis said via Saints website. “He was a top free agent target for us and I know that he is very excited to be able to come home to play football.”
“I’m very excited to be able to come back to my hometown,” Lewis said. “Having grown up here I understand the passion that the fans have for the Saints and I’m blessed to be able to have the chance to play in front of them here in the future. I had a great visit with the Saints and am thankful for the time I spent with the Pittsburgh Steelers and wish them continued success.”
The Steelers signing of William Gay last week signaled the Steelers intention to move on and not pay Lewis the money he was going to get elsewhere after one good season.
Lewis deal is 5 years, $26.5 million with a $6 million signing bonus and just a $1 million base salary in 2013, making his cap hit just $2.2 million for 2013.
