I have never seen a season where the Penguins were linked to so many former players. This year the media had the Penguins going after Adam Hall ( which was false), Colby Armstrong ( somewhat true), Ryan Malone (true) and Jarkko Ruutu ( true)
Just days before the March 4th Trade deadline, the Tampa Bay Lightning began shopping forward Ryan Malone. The Penguins, Rangers, Wild and Canucks all expressed interest. Sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports

The Lightning first wanted Kris Letang and a 1st round pick for Malone. The Penguins obviously balked at those demands and then the Lightning came back to the Penguins late Tuesday night asking for Alex Goligoski and a 1st round pick. Pittsburgh said no thanks again.
Many expect Malone’s name to come quite a bit at the draft as Malones frustrations are mounting with the Lightning organization. If the Lightning want to move that salary, managements demands better come down.
