- Francisco Liriano had another effective start, allowing 2 earned runs of less for the 8th time in his last nine starts. In the Pirates 3-2 loss to the Reds today, Liriano allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He threw 111 pitches, 67 for strikes. Liriano ran into trouble in the 5th. Liriano allowed a 4 pitch leadoff walk to Ryan Ludwick and Chris Heisey crushed a 2-run homer off Liriano to tie the game at 2-2. Heisey would later add the game winning homer off Jared Hughes in the ninth. “Really good outing,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Liriano.
