The Pittsburgh Pirates have scouted top college pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz heavily of late and the Pirates were in attendance for the southpaws start Friday night against St. John’s in the NCAA Regionals.

Pomeranz (9-2) worked 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Pomeranz left the game with two men on and the Rebels holding to a 7-0 lead but was charged with the two earned runs as the first batter faced once he left the game hit a two-run home run to get St. John’s on the board.
Pomeranz improved to 9-2 on the year with a 2.24 ERA and a 139-49 K/BB ratio in 100 2/3 innings.
With just over 48 hours until the MLB draft, word out of Pirates headquarters is that the team has not decided on who they wil select with the No. 2 overall pick. Pomeranz is among 2 players the Pirates are considering.
