News & Views: Todays Top Headlines: Local & National

1. News: Pirate Fans plan walkout on June 30th

Views: The walkout seemed like a longshot at first but it is gaining steam in recent days. Whether it is a success remains to been seen but they have an endorsement from me. What is alarming is the Pirates telling FSN not to show the walkout and talk show hosts Tim Benz, Joe Bendel and Ellis Cannon being not permitted to take calls on the walkout do to their stations affiliation with the Pirates.

2. News: A reported 4 team deal that would send Kevin Garnett to the Lakers is off the table

Views: The Lakers must find a way to get a third team involved if they have any hopes of landing the Big Ticket. The Atlanta Hawks hold the number 3 & 11 picks in the first round and are the rumored team that may get involved. New reports are the Lakers are out of the sweepstakes and the Suns are the front runners to land Garnett with Shaun Marion going to Boston and the T’Wolves receiving Bostons 5th overall pick. Regardless of what espn is reporting, the Lakers hopes of keeping Kobe Bryant rest on the shoulders of Lakers GM Mitch Kupchik to land Kevin Garnett. I don’t care who the Lakers have as a supporting cast, there will not be a better a tandem then Bryant & Garnett.

3. News: The Calgary Flames and captain Jarome Iginla are working on an long term extension

Views: This is a no-brainer for the Flames as Iginla is the heart and soul of the team. Whats going to be interesting is whether Iginla takes less money, so the Flames can return to being a Stanley Cup contender

4. News: Four Star Linebacker Mike Yancich commits to PSU

Views: Can’t blame the kid for picking linebacker U but what a blow to Pitt. First they miss out on Yanchich’s teammate Andrew Sweat who committed to Ohio State and now miss out on Yancich.

5. News: Ripken, Gwynn: Bonds should be All-Star

Views: Ripken and Gwynn are absolutely right. Based on performance Bonds deserves to be in the game. Factor in the his lifetime achievements, he should be in the game. Like i said before the fans want to superstars like Bonds & Griffey in the game not journeymen who have had a couple productive months.
