Dallas 28 Cleveland 10 РDallas scored touchdowns on three of their four first half possessions and Cleveland was unable to match their efficiency. The Cowboys controlled the ball for 37:29 and did not let Cleveland get the ball back after the Browns kicked a field goal with 10:13 left in the game.
Carolina 26 San Diego 24 – Even without star wide receiver Steve Smith, Carolina was able to score a touchdown with no time left on the clock to defeat San Diego. Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme made a triumphant retun from Tommy John surgery by throwing for 247 yards and a touchdown.
Arizona 23 San Francisco 13 – Arizona¬†took a page from¬†head coach Ken Whisenhunt’s former team by controlling the ball for 37:05 and Neil Rackers kicked three field goals to lead the Cardinals to victory.
Chicago 29 Indianapolis 13 – In what might be the biggest upset of the day, Chicago used a punishing ground game and a stingy defense to defeat Indianapolis. Rookie running back Matt Forte led the way for Chicago with 123 yards including a 50-yard burst up the middle for a touchdown. Peyton Manning missed the preseason due to surgery and the rust was evident as he completed 30 of 49 passes but only averaged 5.2 yards per attempt.
