FLYERS 5 – PENGUINS 1
Claude Giroux scored 32 seconds into the game and it was the Claude Giroux show from there as Philadelphia Flyers eliminated the Pittsburgh Penguins from the playoffs, defeating Pittsburgh 5-1 on Sunday in Game 6, advancing to the second round.
Pittsburgh which played flat for most of the afternoon, trailed 3-0 early in the second period and only showed some life when Evgeni Malkin scored a power play goal at 8:34 of the period but the Flyers like they did most of the series, responded 34 seconds later when Danny Briere put the Flyers up 4-1.
Protecting a 4-1 lead, Philadelphia would lock down defensively and close out the series.
Claude Giroux was the star of the series and the afternoon, with a goal and 2 assists in the win, giving him 14 points in 6 playoff games. Pittsburgh had no answers for Giroux or the Flyers on the power play as Philadelphia scored their 12th power play goal of the series on Scott Hartnell’s power play marker at 13:01 of the first period.
Brayden Schenn added an empty net goal for Philadelphia.
